
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — One person died in a fire Tuesday afternoon in Hutchinson.
At 12:17 p.m. today, the Hutchinson Fire Department responded to 4506 East Avenue G for a report of a structure fire. When they got there, fire crews reported a 2 ½ story home with heavy smoke showing from the front of the home.
Bystanders on scene informed HFD of a possible person in the home. As fire crews entered the home, crews located the victim and removed the person from the structure. Life saving measures were immediately started. HFD members along with Reno County EMS worked for approximately 40 minutes in an attempt to save the victim's life. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
HFD continued interior fire operations to bring the fire under control.
HFD located one dog that did survive the fire that appeared to be doing well. The dog was turned over to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter for care.
Crews completed major salvage and overhaul operations of the home. HFD’s fire investigation team is working the case along with the State Fire Marshal's Office.
The cause of the structure fire remains under investigation. The victims name will not be released at this time due to notifications that need to be made.
The Reno County Sheriff Department is working on notifications.
