HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson High School will host a special track meet for students not in athletic programs as part of a fun way to celebrate Salthawk Service Day.

The meet specifically for HHS students is Friday, April 29, at 8:15 a.m. at Gowans Stadium.

This will be the first student track meet that Hutchinson High School will host in more than three years because of COVID. In the past, the high school has partnered with the local Kiwanis Club for the event, but this year the meet will be run completely by HHS students and staff.

More than 50 HHS students are scheduled to compete in the Salthawk Service Day Track Meet and have a chance to enter in 30 different track and field events such as long jump, running, and softball throwing. The meet will also include events for students that have disabilities and mobility aids.

HCTEA’s Sweet Treat has partnered with the event to run a concession stand, with proceeds going to the DECA organization at HHS. Community members and families are encouraged to attend to support the athletes.
