Larry Lee Minnis was called home to be with the Lord on December 25, 2022. He was born November 27, 1939 in Pratt, to Charles and Vanetta Minnis. Larry was the oldest of 10 siblings. He attended Pratt Senior High School and spent over half of his life living in Pratt, Kansas.

Larry married Scharlotte Anne Forbes (Minnis) on April 6, 1961 and unto that great union one handsome son and three beautiful daughters were born: the late Larry Douglas and Lee Ann Minnis ; Tracy C. Minnis (Hadsell) and Shelby L. Minnis (Maxwell).

Larry gave his life to Christ at a very young age and was a faithful member and Deacon at Second Baptist Church in Pratt. In 1982, the Minnis family moved to Hutchinson, KS but continued to travel to Pratt for church every Sunday until they found a church home in Hutchinson. Larry affectionately known as PopPa was an active member at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Hutchinson as well, serving as a Deacon and singing in the Men’s Choir. PopPa also was an active member of the African American Male Chorus in Hutchinson.

Throughout his lifetime Larry held many notable jobs. After spending over 25 years at Conoco, he retired and took his talents to the automotive industry working at Midwest Ford for over 10 years in the parts department. Finally, his jovial spirit led him to be the courtesy driver for Midwest Ford and Allen Samuels.

Larry was the epitome of a God-fearing Christian man and there was no doubt in his mind that he was going to heaven. Although he battled cancer for over three years, PopPa never complained and was a bright light to others even in his darkest moments. Larry loved to fish, work on lawn mowers, travel; as long as it was in a car, but most of all, spent time with his lovely family.
