Sara “Emily” Hughes, 99, of Hesston, died September 10, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was born February 14, 1923, in Penalosa, to Floyd and Ruth (Allen) Hobbs.
Emily attended Langdon High School. She worked as an overseas operator for Southwestern Bell in Wichita during World War II and later made custom-made draperies for JC Penney in Hutchinson. Emily was the credit manager at Hutchinson Hospital for 42 years, retiring in 1988. Throughout her life, she enjoyed many activities including collecting antiques, making Teddy bears and doll clothes, weaving rugs, and researching genealogy. Emily was of the Christian faith.
She married Norman Buck and they had one son, David. Emily later married Jessie L. “Tex” Hughes and they had one daughter, Judy Margo. He died August 19, 1990.
She is survived by: her children, David and Tony Buck of San Diego, CA, and Judy Margo Parsons of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Heidi Buck and Jeff Ploetner of San Diego, Rachel and Bill Wright of Derby, Charla and Dan Heddin of Moundridge, Brad and Emily Buscher of Hutchinson; great-grandchildren, Clary Ploetner, Kole Wright, Gage Wright, Max and Tiffany Heddin, Veronica and Landon Brandt, Ruth and Nathan Bashore, Luke Buscher, Abigail Buscher; and great-great-grandchildren, Jonah Heddin, Lilah Heddin, Elijah Brandt, and Cooper Brandt.
Emily was preceded in death by: her parents; husbands, Norman and Tex; and brother, Quentin Hobbs.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Lerado Cemetery, 23694 S. Lerado Road, Langdon. There will be no visitation.
