Donna Bernadine Schwertfeger, 90, passed away February 5, 2023, at her home. She was born July 4, 1932, in Pratt, KS, to Earl Vernon Rolf and Tressa (Gimpel) Rolf.
Donna was a 1950 graduate of Pratt High School, Pratt, KS. She also graduated from Goodland Technical Vocational School, Goodland, KS.
Donna was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, needlepoint, crafting, cooking, baking, and working in her flower garden. She was also involved in the making and the collecting of dolls. Donna was an avid golfer and was still playing golf at the age of 88. She was a member of the Carey Park Women’s Golf Association and she was the 9-Hole Club Champion in 1999, 2015, and 2017. Donna also served as the golf league’s 9-hole prize chairman for many years. She was a longtime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, KS. Donna was active in the Circle 1 women’s group at the church. She served as the treasurer for the women’s group and was an active participant in the group’s service project of making quilts to be donated to various places and organizations.
On September 17, 1950, Donna married Alvin ‘Al’ Walter Schwertfeger, in Natrona, KS. They shared over 68 years of marriage, prior to his death on November 14, 2018.
Donna is survived by: her son, Galen (Belinda) Schwertfeger of Kalamazoo, MI; granddaughters, Arrianne Scott of Norman, OK, and Alexandra (Thomas) Howard of Kalamazoo, MI; great-grandchildren, Grant, Morgan, Paige, Grayson, Olivia, and Felicity Howard; brother, Vernon (Jayne) Rolf of Mesa, AZ; sister, Janet (Kerry) Cox of Pratt, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; and great-grandchildren, Riley, Aubrey, and Rose Howard.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 407 E. 12th, Hutchinson, KS, with Pastor Quentin Nuttmann and Pastor Henry Blickhahn officiating. Burial will follow in the Saint Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Natrona, KS. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary.
