Position: HousekeeperStatus: Full-TimeShift: DaySalary Range: $14.00-$20.00 Hourly

Job Summary

The housekeeper is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing rooms and furnishings, and floor care in assigned areas, following established policies and procedures while maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and sanitation, and providing assistance and support to residents at Wesley Towers.

Assist with laundry duties as requested.

Performance Requirements

Responsibilities

  1. Ensure timely completion of assigned projects and daily routine and provide notices to concerned parties with change in daily routine.
  2. Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with department, Wesley Towers, Inc. policy, within regulatory compliance as assigned by supervisor.
  3. Follow all safety precautions and use universal precautions in providing resident services.
  4. Use personal protective equipment appropriately.
  5. Dispose of biohazardous waste according to policy.
  6. Practice cost-effective techniques when utilizing time and materials.
  7. Let appropriate persons know if the daily schedule must be changed.
  8. Know the location of the housekeeping/laundry policy and procedure manual, emergency preparedness manual, infection control manual, exposure control plan and material safety data sheets.
  9. Safely operate Wesley Towers, Inc. equipment and company vehicles.
  10. Maintain cleaning carts, work areas and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly manner.
  11. Keep supervisors informed of any problems, issues or supply/equipment needs.
  12. Observe residents and communicate any concerns, changes of behavior or physical well-being to the appropriate person.
  13. Encourage socialization among residents and their participation in activities.
  14. Respond to emergency situations and drills.
  15. Perform tasks assigned by the appropriate authority in emergency situations.

Job Duties

  1. Provide floor care appropriate to surface type as needed.
  2. Keep up to date with chemicals currently in use along with their proper usage and procedures for use.
  3. Participate in Continuous Service Improvement meetings as assigned.
  4. Complete or assist in completion of continuous service improvement inspections and data gathering.
  5. Assist with setup for various functions taking place within the Wesley Towers complex.
  6. Assist with internal moves of residents by packing and unpacking personal belongings and moving furniture as assigned.
  7. Deliver clean linen and towels to the appropriate storage areas as assigned.
  8. Check resident rooms while residents are away from home as scheduled.
  9. Wash inside and outside of windows as assigned.
  10. Collect, sort, launder and deliver personal clothing to residents.
  11. Maintain records of processed resident clothing as requested.
  12. Assist in searching for and finding missing clothing, marking items and returning them to the proper owner.
  13. Keep resident clothing in good repair and mend as needed.
  14. Maintain the laundry area on a daily basis regarding cleanliness and infection control issues.
  15. Perform housekeeping and laundry duties as assigned by supervisors to provide services as needed for residents.

Special Demands

Must be flexible in relation to change of duties and work areas.

Must demonstrate the ability to work directly with the elderly in a one-to-one situation, communicate clearly what tasks are being performed and help alleviate apprehensive feelings residents may have concerning those tasks.

Must be able to concentrate on detail with frequent interruptions. Consideration of residents is the first priority when performing tasks.

It is essential that infection control be practiced daily and remain in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Must be able to distinguish smells and see well enough to determine whether or not surfaces are clean.

Will be on call as needed, so access to transportation with little or no notice and some means of receiving a phone message for emergency call-in purposes is required.

Physical Demands

  1. Frequent sitting, standing, walking and bending.
  2. Occasional squatting, crawling, climbing and reaching above the head.
  3. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds unassisted.
  4. Must be able to carry up to 30 pounds unassisted.
  5. Position requires frequent grasping and fine manipulation with both hands.
  6. Position requires pushing and pulling, including linen and utility carts.
  7. Periodic moving of furniture and operation of equipment is necessary.

Qualifications

  1. High school education or GED preferred.
  2. Must be able to read, write and/or receive oral or written instructions.
  3. Previous housekeeping experience preferred.
  4. Previous experience working with older adults preferred.

Working Environment

  1. Exposure to great fluctuations in temperature from going outside in seasonal conditions.
  2. High temperatures may be above 100 degrees Fahrenheit and low temperatures may be below zero.
  3. Exposure to loud or unpleasant noises when using machinery.
  4. Occasional exposure to unpleasant odors.
  5. Exposure to chemicals, dust and fumes.
  6. Exposure to infections, waste and potentially infectious diseases.
  7. May be required to work in small, close areas or from a ladder.
