Haven City Council approves pool project

HAVEN, Kan. — While legal action between the city of Haven and a contractor hired to renovate the city swimming pool remains in the court system, the Haven City Council did decide to move forward with getting the pool back open for next year.

During Monday’s city council meeting, approval was given for a contract with L.J. Roth of Olds, Iowa, to repair and finish the renovation of the pool. The pool has been closed for three summers now after problems came up with the contractor and the condition of the pool. Since then, both sides have been in a legal fight over the matter. With no end to the legal fight in sight, the city has decided to repair the pool and then try to recoup its losses.

Under the contract, L.J. Roth will cut out the concrete and install new material, then install an epoxy coating as per engineers' specifications. The cost of the project is $374,750. Work on the project is scheduled to begin Sept. 6.
