
On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, Shirley Y. (Wedel) Warner, loving wife and mother to three children, passed away at age 79.
Shirley was born on May 15, 1944 in Moundridge, Kansas to Elmer and Lucinda (Schultz) Wedel. Shirley was married to Verle Warner for 52 years until his passing in 2013. She had a career in Banking and working for the State of Kansas until she retired in 2006.
Throughout Shirley’s life, she was an amazing baker, known for her delicious pies, and made amazing food, had a beautiful talent for embroidering keepsake tea towels and baby blankets for her children and grandchildren. Shirley’s grandchildren were her greatest joys. She really found a joy watching sports, especially Royal’s Baseball, KU and WSU Basketball, she could talk sports with her family and enjoyed every minute of it. Shirley was a member and very active in her Church, The Walton United Methodist Church. She would look forward and have weekly lunch dates with girlfriends from work and church to catch up with them and pray with them.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Verle Warner; parents, Elmer and Lucinda Wedel; and one grandchild, Emma Lee Warner. She is survived by her children, Sandy (Daniel) O’Rear, Colorado Springs, CO, Colleen (Tom) Chopp, New Cambria, KS and Gary (Carla) Warner, Halstead, KS; her grandchildren, AJ (Kacy) Warner, Sara (Noelle) San Souci, Ryan (Trevor) Cole, Rebekah McLaughlin, Jordan O’Rear, Mattie (Austin) Cross and Elsie Warner. She was also blessed to have six great grandchildren, Brooklyne, Kennedy, Jase, Ruby, Ren and Kairos. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, September 25, 2023 at Mound Township Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, September 24, at Moundridge Funeral Home.
