Jack Christopher Orr, 91, died June 6, 2023, at Diversicare of Hutchinson, KS.  He was born March 3, 1932, in Syracuse, KS, the son of William Melvin Orr and Gladys (Wright) Orr.

Jack was a graduate of Lyons High School, Lyons, KS.  He served in the United States Army.  Jack was employed by the City of Hutchinson Fire Department from May 1957 to January 1960.  He then went to work for three years at Cessna and returned to work in June 1963 to the City of Hutchinson Fire Department, retiring in February 1995, with the rank of Captain.

Jack enjoyed taking cruises, especially to Alaska, dancing with his wife, and working in his backyard where he had a koi pond.  He was a renowned jokester.  Jack’s family was very important to him and he could be counted on if anyone needed help.

On December 3, 1988, he married Jackie Maxine Cox, in Hutchinson, KS.  They shared over 34 years of marriage, prior to her death on July 29, 2019.

Jack is survived by:  his daughter, Marsha (Loy Henderson) Flummerfelt of Ulysses, KS; son, Kelly Cox of Springfield, MO; grandchildren, Jason, Brock, Amber, Kasey, Spike, Liz, and Cameron; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and friend, Bob (Linda) Starks of Hutchinson, KS.

He was preceded in death by:  his parents; wife; son, Mike Hayden; and twin sister, Barbara Park.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary.  Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park.  Honors will be conducted by the City of Hutchinson Fire Department Honor Guard.  Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2023, through Saturday, June 10, 2023, and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Hutchinson Fire Department (for the benefit of Station #1), in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
