
The Volunteer Center of Reno County, a United Way agency, is a central clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities in Reno County. Area non-profit and governmental organizations have submitted the following requests for help. PLUM CREEK ELEMENTARY PRE-K assistants will be needed on Monday through Fridays during the school year from 11:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. Volunteers will help during lunch time with opening milks, scraping off trays, answering questions, and then help with recess supervision after lunch. Volunteers should be patient, able to work with energetic children with a positive attitude, must be 16 years of age and will complete a background check.
HUTCHINSON PUBLIC LIBRARY needs Adult Education Tutors. Tutors will assist adult patrons with studying basic math, basic reading, GED prep, improving spoken English and similar tasks. Materials will be provided, and meetings will take place in a library meeting room. Volunteers should be 22 years old and have completed high school. Volunteers are needed for 1-hour sessions Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays between 10 a.m.-12 p.m. or 1 p.m.-5 p.m. (The time is flexible according to the volunteer’s schedule.)
HUTCHINSON REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER AUXILIARY is needing volunteers to help at the information desk located at the front counter of the hospital. Volunteers will greet visitors, answer the telephone, and look up patient information in the computer. Volunteers must be 18 years of age. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday, 9am-12pm, and 12pm-3pm Volunteers are also needed at the ICU Waiting Room to help monitor the sign-in of family visitors, visit with families when needed, etc. Monday through Friday from 9am-12pm or 12pm-3pm, or just as needed by HRMC. Volunteers are also needed in the gift shop at the hospital. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday from 9:30am-12:30pm, or 12:30pm-4:00pm. Volunteers will greet customers, and help them purchase items. Volunteers will use a cash register to do so. Volunteer shift times can be negotiated if needed. Volunteers are also needed in the same day surgery center from 8 am to whenever surgeries are done for the day. Volunteer assists staff and families in the same day surgery area.
RISE UP RENO PREVENTION NETWORK is seeking volunteers to read with elementary school students for 30 minutes to an hour each week. Volunteers are also needed to mentor students Kindergarten through 12th grade once a week for up to an hour. Volunteers will provide caring support for the student as well as read with them or work on schoolwork or homework as needed. Volunteers must be 18 years of age, pass a background check, have an interest in mentoring, and complete the initial paperwork and orientation before being placed in schools.
The KANSAS STATE FAIR will be held September 11-20, 2026. The fair is looking for front desk workers in the administration office from now through the fair to answer and transfer calls, greet people coming into the office, etc. During the fair, volunteers are also needed in the education center to assist staff with activities for children and in exhibit buildings to help monitor exhibits. Volunteers must be 18 years of age and will have a background check. Volunteers will receive a free t-shirt, free admission into the state fair and free food tickets if they volunteer 4 hours or more. Volunteers must have a friendly and helpful attitude while dealing with all walks of life during the fair.
GRAND STAFF THRIFT BOUTIQUE needs volunteers to help sort and wash clothing donations, help with displays, attach tags, stock the floor, help price items, clean and repair items as needed, and receive donations. They have a need Tuesday through Saturday from 10am-5pm, or a shorter shift if needed. Minimum age for volunteer positions is 18 years old. They are also
