HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The canvass of votes from the Aug. 2 primary in Reno County will be delayed. Deputy Elections Clerk Jenna Fager asked for the delay in the canvass due to a hand recount of the advance walk-in ballots. The canvass will now take place Monday, Aug. 15 at 9 a.m.
A random audit of 11 precincts on Friday found discrepancies in numbers related to the Republican State Treasurer's race. The election day voting audit was correct, so the hand count of about 3500 ballots continues. That should be finished by the end of the day Tuesday, according to Fager. That count has pushed back the department's resolution of provisional ballots. For that reason Fager asked that the canvass be pushed back to the new date.
The audit did not reveal any problems with any of the other races in the primary, though all races are counted again for the walk-in advance ballots.
