
Frances “Louise” Matthews, 99, of Hutchinson, died surrounded by her loved ones January 1, 2026, at The Wesley. She was born June 7, 1926, in Pretty Prairie, Kansas, to Frank and Nannie (McCowan) Mohs.
Louise attended Pretty Prairie schools and graduated from high school in 1944. She was a long-time member of Grace Episcopal Church.
On February 24, 1946, Louise married Donald Matthews in Hutchinson. They shared 65 years of marriage before his death January 13, 2011.
Louise worked as a tax preparer for over 30 years and was an enrolled agent. She worked at H&R Block and Hutchinson Income Tax Services. Louise was very well liked by her coworkers and truly enjoyed helping clients with their tax returns.
Louise is survived by: children, Don (Marilyn) Matthews Jr. and Debbie (Bob) Ridpath; grandchildren, Scott Matthews and Sara (Mike) Probst; and great-grandchild, Eli Probst.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Donald Matthews; siblings, Bill Mohs, Junior Mohs, and Evelyn Mohs Corbett.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. January 7, 2026, at Lone Star Cemetery, 300 W. Sun City Rd., with Deacon Todd Ray officiating. Family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. January 6, 2026, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel. Friends may sign her memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
