According to the Kansas Department of Labor, the jobless rate for the county rose five tenths of one percent to 3.2%. The jobless rate for the same period in 2022 was 2.7%.

There were 915 county residents out of work.  This increase was prior to the announcements of layoffs at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center and at Sunoco Paper.

Preliminary estimates reported by the Labor Market Information Services (LMIS) division of the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) show a statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 2.9% in January. This is unchanged from 2.9% in December and an increase from 2.5% in January 2022.
