Montie Ray McFerrin, 74 years old, of Sylvia, KS was born August 11, 1951. He left this world to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, August 24, 2025. He married Christina “Tina” Mohr, on June 28, 1986. They were married for 35 years before her passing in 2021. On August 28, 2022, Montie married Deborah Bliss.
Montie lived his life serving others - both in his work and in his ministry. He served as a Fedex Carrier Driver for 25 years, building and cherishing his relationships on and off the job. Montie never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, and more than likely he was talking about the Lord. If he wasn’t talking about the Lord, he was probably talking about hot rods, horses, hunting, and fishing.
His greatest calling was serving as pastor. Montie helped build and faithfully lead Saltcity Cowboy Church for 13 years. Starting in an old sale barn, where the smell of hay and the sound of boots on concrete filled the air, Montie faithfully worked for God, and through his servant heart and the dedication of many others, the church grew into a beautifully built place of worship that continues to thrive today.
Montie was preceded in death by his parents, Louis V. and Charlene (Murray) McFerrin; wife, Tina McFerrin; and a sister, Connie Hinkle.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie McFerrin; children, Darbey Cockrell, Colton (Dawn) McFerrin, Kathryn (Dustin) Patee, Kristin (Cody) Rexwinkle, Amy (Randy) Ware; and Jake (Jo) McCullough; brothers, Jerry (Susan) McFerrin and Tim McFerrin; grandchildren, Kobe Cockrell, Malley, Welker, and Bristol Patee, Annah, Kadence and Harper Zaharis, Kodi and Cali Rexwinkle, Skylar, Jostin, Bentley and Gatlin Ware, Ty, Taysleigh, and Tresten McCullough.
The memorial service will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Saltcity Cowboy Church, 810 N. Main, South Hutchinson, KS. Visitation will be Monday, September 1, 2025 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made payable to Kathryn Patee for the grandchildren’s education fund and can be sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67502.
