🏀 MBB: Strong shooting Blue Dragons roll past Colby

COLBY, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team used a strong night from the field to cruise past the Colby Trojans 89-67 on Tuesday evening at the Colby Events Center.

Hutchinson (16-11, 10-11 KJCCC) built a 41-27 halftime lead before erupting for a 62 percent shooting performance in the second half to pull away from Colby (5-21, 2-18).

Aaron Franklin led the way for the Blue Dragons with a double-double, going for 27 points and 10 rebounds in 34 minutes of play. Franklin did so on 22 field goal attempts, 13 more than Kernan Bundy's nine shot attempts, which were second-most. Aaron Potter finished with 14, Bundy had 13 and Kieran Carr put up 11 points.

Elijah Wood had a team-high 22 points for the host Trojans, while Joshua O'Garro and Anthony Sellars both went for 12.

The Blue Dragons committed 18 turnovers, which led to 20 points for Colby, while the Trojans had 16 turnovers, leading to 22 HutchCC points. The Blue Dragons dominated the points in the paint, outscoring Colby 50-26 in the lane, and 20-6 in the second-chance points category. The Hutch bench outscored the Trojans 27-12.

Colby only had one lead in the game, that came 47 seconds into the contest. Other than that, the Blue Dragons dominated for the next 39 minutes.

Hutchinson returns to the Sports Arena on Saturday when they host the Northwest Tech Mavericks. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
