Crecencio Mario Mondragon Jr., 78, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at his home in Hutchinson, KS.  He was born February 6, 1945, in Chicago, IL, to Crecencio M. Mondragon Sr. and Thomasa (Lopez) Mondragon.

On May 3, 1969, Mario was united in marriage to Carmen Rodriguez in Chicago, IL on May 3, 1969.  Mario enlisted in the United States Army. While serving 2 tours in the Vietnam War, he received numerous medals, ribbons and badges. After serving his country for 20 years, Mario retired and he was honorably discharged on June 30, 1987.

Above all, Mario was devoted to his family and was happiest when surrounded by them; especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mario always wanted to be where the action was and loved attending sporting events, family celebrations, and backyard barbeques.  To describe Mario, it would be to say he was generous, kind, proud, devoted, organized, and committed to getting things done.  His legacy will not be forgotten as it continues to live on within us and fond memories of Mario will forever be cherished.

Mario is preceded in death by his parents; and numerous brothers and sisters. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Carmen; son, Mark (Lura)Mondragon; daughter, Michelle (Aaron) East; sisters, Theresa, Carmen, Margie and Delores; brother, Bennie; grandchildren, Matthew (Chelsea) Mondragon, Stephen (Cheyanne) Reagin, Eisa Mondragon, Macy Mondragon, Braelyn East, and Quincy Mondragon; great grandchildren, Penny and Maddie Reagin.

A military graveside inurnment will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 19, 2024 at Ft. Riley Veteran’s Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, Manhattan, KS. Military Honors conducted by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Arrangements and care entrusted to Hutchinson Funeral Chapel & Crematory.
