Trump Administration Temporarily Suspends Duties on Phosphate Fertilizer Imports
The Trump administration is temporarily suspending countervailing duties on certain imported phosphate fertilizers in an effort to reduce input costs for American farmers, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
USDA estimates the move will lower phosphate fertilizer prices by approximately 22 percent, resulting in an estimated $1.82 billion in annual savings for U.S. producers.
The department said more than 100,000 farms across 97 million planted acres could benefit from increased fertilizer supplies and greater competition in the marketplace.
"Today's announcement will bring immediate relief to producers who rely on these critical inputs," Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said.
USDA officials said the temporary suspension is part of a broader strategy to improve fertilizer affordability while strengthening the nation's agricultural supply chain.
In addition to the tariff relief, the department said it is working to expand domestic fertilizer production, address anti-competitive practices in agricultural input markets, and support new manufacturing projects designed to reduce U.S. reliance on foreign fertilizer sources.
