RENO COUNTY — Kari Mailloux with the Hutchinson Community Foundation spoke to the Board of County Commissioners at their meeting on Wednesday about a new initiative to make sure the county stays pointed in the correct direction over the next few years.
"We're going to launch now, a three year initiative, asking residents what their priorities are now and going forward," Mailloux said. "It starts with a survey that is out now. People can find it at renosurvey.com. That will go through July. We're hoping to hear from at least 1100 Reno County residents from all across the county."
After they get the survey results, the work will continue.
"We'll have a report for Hutchinson, South Hutchinson, Nickerson, Buhler, Haven, the Yoder area, the Pretty Prairie area and then generally, the Fairfield area, western Reno County, as well as a report for all of Reno County."
The team will then host gatherings in the fall in each community for residents to discuss the results, prioritize needs, and brainstorm community projects.
"We'll put some grant funding behind what comes out of those gatherings and the action projects," Mailloux said. "We'll do that every year for three years. What we really want to do is help people feel a sense of ownership, pride, belonging and agency in this community, all across Reno County."
The foundation also plans to put physical copies of the surveys in each of the communities for those who don't want to fill it out online.
