MOUNDRIDGE, Kan. — According to a social media post from Moundridge police, a 14-month old was rescued Sunday afternoon.
Just before 2 p.m., Moundridge police, fire and EMS were called to a report of a juvenile needing assistance. The child was trapped underground inside a PVC pipe. The pipe was about 12 inches in diameter and 10-12 feet deep. The child was apparently uninjured and upright in the bottom of the pipe.
Emergency crews worked for 15-20 minutes to recover the child. Officer Wagner constructed a makeshift 'catch pole'. This creative solution was instrumental in lifting the child out.
The child was physically OK, though obviously emotionally shaken from the experience.
