Kan. man was traveling 82mph in a 40mph zone in fatal crash

SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Kansas man will go to prison for a fatal Kansas crash after he entered a plea deal in the case.

On Friday, 27- year-old Dalton Jones of Wichita agreed to serve 12 months in jail with work release authorized, pay a $2,500 fine and pay restitution in the amount of $10,832.97, according to the Sedgwick County District attorney's office. In January, he pled guilty to one count of vehicular homicide.

Just before 6a.m. October 27, 2022, a vehicle driven by 70-year-old Paula McKinney was westbound on 53rd Street at N Air Cap Drive when she attempted to turn left into a convenience store, according to Park City Police.

A vehicle driven by Jones was eastbound traveling 82mph in a 40mph zone, according to court documents, when McKinney turned in front of Jones.

EMS transported both McKinney and Jones to a local hospital. McKinney was pronounced dead from her injuries.
