Bobby Dean “Bob” Murrell, 89, died December 15, 2024, at Hester Care Center, Hutchinson.  He was born March 9, 1935, in Cushing, OK, to Hurchel and Mable (Sheridan) Murrell.  

Bob graduated from Cushing High School, in 1953.  He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956.  Bob worked in the fractionation industry with natural gas processing and helium plant operations and maintenance as an operator.  After retirement, he worked for Hutchinson USD 308.  Bob enjoyed gardening, woodworking, traveling, and listening to country and southern gospel music.  He was also an assistant Boy Scout Leader for Troop #306, and enjoyed taking his scouts camping.  In addition, Bob was a member of the Oil Chemical and Atomic Workers International Union, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, and the Doers Sunday School Class.  

On June 18, 1967, he married Carolyn Marie Oplinger, in Jewell, KS.  

Bob is survived by:  his wife of over 57 years, Carolyn Murrell of Hutchinson; daughter, Janet Hopkins of Prairie Village; son, Curtis Murrell of Kansas City, KS; grandsons, Wyatt Hopkins of Lenexa and Garrett Hopkins of Scott City; and 10 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by:  his parents; infant brother, James L. Murrell; sisters, Betty Murrell McAulay (Walter), Patsy Murrell Hankins (Luther), and Phyllis (Murrell) Wright Ramsey (Jim); son-in-law, Jeff Hopkins; and nephew, Bruce Hankins. 

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, Hutchinson with the Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.  Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
