HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A person was burned in a garage fire Wednesday night in Hutchinson.
According to a release from the Hutchinson Fire Department, crews responded to the 1500 Blk of West 12th at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a vehicle on fire. Engine 5 arrived on scene and reported that this was a working fire in a detached garage. Engine 5 immediately upgraded the alarm to a full structure fire response.
Crews performed a quick and aggressive attack on the fire. Crews achieved extinguishment in a short period of time. The garage was occupied at the time of the fire. The occupant was treated on scene by fire units for second degree burns and was later transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center by Reno County EMS.
The fire is currently under investigation by HFD investigators. The garage received heavy damage from the fire and a nearby vehicle received minor damage.
