KC Firefighter hospitalized after fall while fighting building blaze

KANSAS CITY —One firefighter was injured while battling a fire on Friday in Kansas City.

Just after 9a.m. Friday, crews responded to a fire in a three-story vacant building in the 2100 block of Tracy in Kansas City, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.

Crews reported smoke from the third floor on arrival. The incident command ordered a second alarm at approximately 9:15.m.

A total of five handlines were used on an interior attack to get the fire under control. One KCFD firefighter was transported to a local hospital for treatment for injuries sustained when he fell through a set of stairs.

The firefighter was reported stable and in good condition. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by KCFD
