Release from Reno County Republican Central Committee
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Write-in hopeful, Cris Corey, is not supported by the Republican party in the upcoming general election, according to Reno County Republican Central Committee Chairman Ryan Patton.
Corey, who lost to Randy Parks in the primary election for Reno County Commission District #1, is now running a write-in campaign. The Kansas Republican Party Constitution does not allow for the support of any candidate other than the Republican nominee in a contested, partisan campaign for public office. "The Republican constituency has spoken. They have chosen Randy Parks as their nominee for County Commissioner, and the Central Committee respects their decision," Patton said. Therefore, the Reno County Republican Central Committee cannot and will not support Cris Corey as a candidate in the upcoming general election for County Commissioner.
"Corey implies his allegiance to the Republican Party; however, his actions have not been indicative of a desire to work with or support the party platform," Patton said. "During his primary campaign, Cris never sought Republican support for his race even though multiple opportunities and invitations were made available to him," continued Patton. Contribution records even show the Corey household donated to the local Democratic Party. While Cris speaks of wanting to work together and collaborate, his actions show otherwise. He has taken the low road of attacking his opponent through baseless claims of calling Parks "a far-right extremist" and trying to circumvent the will of the Republican electorate by ignoring their vote from the primary election. "Disrespecting members of the community through his campaign is not what we want to see out of a potential County Commissioner? "stated Patton.
The Reno County Republican Party would like to allow the public to hear from candidates duly selected to represent the Republican party in the general election. With this in mind, state senator Mark Steffen, M.D., will sponsor a round table forum for Reno County Republican candidates on Tuesday, October 25th, 2022. The forum will be open to all interested Reno County registered voters. It will be held at PrairieStar Health Center starting at 7:00 PM with various desserts prepared by the famous Bakery House and Catering Company. At 7:45, Senator Steffen will lead a Q&A session. Candidate participants include Rep. Michael Murphy, John Whitesel, Don Bogner, Mark Reese, Randy Parks, Rep. Joe Seiwert, Dennis Hershberger, and others.
