NICKERSON, Kan. — The Nickerson City Council gave their approval for a new sexton for the city cemetery during Monday's meeting.

The council went with the low bid from Daily Enterprises of Nickerson at a cost of $1,500 per month. They replace Woolsey Monument who had taken care of the Wildmead Cemetery for the past three years. The new contract begins in March.

The sexton will trim trees at the cemetery along with trimming grass and mowing the grounds. The contractor will also be in charge of cleaning monuments and resetting them. The position also includes setting flags for Memorial Day and raising flags for memorial services when asked by the city.

The council said the lower bid and the fact that Daily is a local resident were the reasons for going with the new contract.
