Lorie Denise Schmidt was born October 17, 1971 in Newton, KS to Arlo and Teresa Schmidt. She grew up on a farm in rural Inman until moving to her grandparents farm when she was 9 years old. She loved playing outside with her little brother Darren and older sister Janelle.

Lorie attended Inman High School, graduating in 1990. She enjoyed playing volleyball, basketball and running track. She also sang in the choir and was also a part of the student council. During those years, she earned multiple athletic and academic honors and won a state championship in volleyball.

Lorie took Lynn to her senior prom and according to Lynn, he knew she was the one. It took Lorie a little longer to come to the same realization. Lorie attended Bethel College where she graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Lorie and Lynn were married on July 30, 1994. They welcomed their son Noah John, in 1999 and their daughter Kate Lauren, in 2004.

Lorie began her career as a registered nurse working at various hospitals, a county health department, and a nursing home, but she really loved the clinic setting at Partners in Family Care in Moundridge. She worked there for 23 years, all assisting Dr. Kathryn Hayes. Lorie took great pride in her job as a nurse and her dedication to her patients and her co-workers did not go unnoticed.

Lorie’s faith was something that was very important to her. When she was 16, Lorie became a member of Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church. She was very involved at her home church throughout her entire life. Lorie was a Sunday School teacher for all ages and was a part of the Board of Education for numerous years.

Lorie’s hobbies included supporting her husband and two children at their various sports and activities. One of her favorite times of the year was scrapbooking weekends with her sister Janelle, and sister in-law Lisa Bartel. She also enjoyed reading, music, art, and spending time with extended family. Everyone who knew Lorie knows that she took great pride in being the best wife and mother that she could be. Lorie was a selfless, hopeful, positive, and a very strong person.

Lorie was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents (Arnold and Anna Schmidt and John and Elsie Penner), and her two sisters (Deanna Schmidt and Janelle Schrag).
