HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Maj. Paul James with the Salvation Army in Hutchinson said the annual kettle drive was successful in 2022.
"Kettles, we did just over $75,000," James said. "Our goal was $70,000 for that portion of our overall goal. I'm really excited about that. It was very encouraging."
The overall goal number is still quite a bit away, though.
"Our overall goal is $400,000, we're currently about $300,000, about 75% of the way," James said. "This goes all the way through January. We need all the help we can get."
In order to meet the needs in front of them, the Salvation Army has had to put out additional funds this past year.
"Again this Christmas, we did a significant amount of assistance, giving out food and toys," James said. "Food, we spent about $8000 more than we did last year for about the same number of food items. We saw it there and then, with Project Concern, I think we spent another additional $6900 to get enough gift cards for Thanksgiving."
The rest of the goal helps to pay for the ongoing expenses of the Salvation Army throughout the year, including the utilities on its building at 700 North Walnut.
