HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Central Christian School opened up several new classrooms that have been empty for 20 years. They showed those off to alumni as part of their 75th Anniversary celebration that kicked off Friday night.
Superintendent Dr. John Walker said the classroom project is from a capital campaign that stared in 2020. Construction for the classrooms was completed a week before school started.

On Friday night, school staff members gave tours of the school and the new classrooms.
"It's fun to have the alumni back to check out the new classrooms to see how the Lord's provided," Walker said.
Each new classroom features new tinted windows for safety reasons, motion sensor lights and flat screen TV’s. Each classroom also accommodates for more teaching space.
Office Manager of Central Christian School Erin Kooiman said before the new expansion, teachers would have to share classrooms.
“The way they figured out which teachers would be over here is who had the biggest classes. So these teachers needed more room so they obviously have more space than the ones they were using before,” Kooiman said while giving a tour.
The gymnasium also had new bleachers put in and the press box and bleachers outside the football stadium are new as well.
"It's one of those situations were people are excited about what's happening at the school and want to support the school financially," Walker said.
On Friday, the school also announced that a donor is planning to contribute to a new weightlifting facility. The Alumni weekend continues Saturday.
