Doris Lee Kimmel |1928-2023|

Doris Lee Kimmel, 94, died May 8, 2023, at Pleasant Hills, Hutchinson.  She was born December 7, 1928, in Oskaloosa, KS, to Charles Earl and Imo Odessa (Cottrell) Johnson.

Doris graduated from Oskaloosa High School and Kansas State University with her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics.  She was raised on the family farm, learning the value of hard work and dedication.

 Doris was an avid lap swimmer, swimming every morning at 6:00am at the YMCA. She enjoyed working in her yard, flower beds and rose garden.

Since 1962, Doris was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson. She was a deacon, elder and taught Sunday school. Early Chapel service was her joy.

On February 14, 1947, she married W.D. “Bill” Kimmel, in Oskaloosa.  He died April 27, 2004, after sharing 57 years of marriage.

Doris is survived by:  sons, Dave Kimmel (Mary Kay) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Tedd Kimmel (Julie) of Hutchinson; and four grandchildren, Chris Kimmel (Jenn), Wesley Kimmel (Sara), Katie Kimmel, and Anna Kimmel.

She was preceded in death by:  her parents; infant son, Thomas Robert Kimmel; grandson, William David “Will” Kimmel; and a brother, Wilbur Johnson.

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.  A private family service will take place, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Hutchinson YMCA or First Presbyterian Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchison, KS  67501.
