SMITH COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 5p.m. Friday in Smith County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle driven by Mark Hollenbeck, 70, Parker, Nebraska, was eastbound on U.S. 36 just east of U.S. 281. The motorcycle struck a trailer pulled by a 2014 Chevy Silverado driven by Dale Herrington, 73, Holdrege, Nebraska, who had slowed to turn north into a cemetery.
Hollenbeck was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Simmons Rentschler Mortuary. Herrington and three passengers in the pickup were not injured. Hollenbeck was wearing a helmet, according to the KHP.
