Barbara Rose “Jake” Wilson, 94 passed away on her 73rd wedding anniversary, March 1, 2025.  She wished to be with her husband, “Squirrel” on their special day.  

Barbara was born in Pratt, Kansas on October 29, 1930 to Maude and Bill Jacob.  She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and Pratt High School, in Pratt, Kansas.  Following high school, she attended Mercy School of Nursing in Hutchinson, Kansas at the age of 17.  

Barbara married her high school sweetheart, Earnest Wilson on March 1, 1952.  They had two children, D. Craig Wilson and Barbara “Jeanne” Trezise.

Barbara was a dedicated orthopedic nurse for 42 years working for John Jarrott, MD.  During that time, they traveled throughout western Kansas visiting and caring for patients at crippled children’s clinics during the polio epidemic. 

She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Earnest, sisters, Jean Ann and Collette and brother Gregory. She is survived by her two children Dr. Craig (Vicki) Wilson, Jeanne (Greg Garcia) Trezise; Grandchildren Rayne (Toby White) Templeton, Haley (Rob) Gandy, Matthew Wilson, Nicholas (Kerry) Wilson, Nate (Jenny) Downey, Megan (Dan) Nies, Scotty (Karena) Downey; Great-Grandchildren Walter and Steven Wilson, Cypress White, Wulff and Harlan Gandy, Robby and Liam Downey, and Lincoln and Jackson Nies; Brothers,  Larry (Nancy) Jacob, Jerry (Arlene) Jacob, Phil (Carol) Jacob; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Parish Rosary will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Church of the Holy Cross, 2631 Independence Road, Hutchinson.  Nursing honors by the Hutchinson Nurses Honor Guard will follow the Rosary.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2025, at Church of the Holy Cross.  Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.  The family will receive friends following the rosary and nursing honors Thursday at the church.
