HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Bretz Injury Law had great success with the 4th Annual Reno County Veterans’ Memorial Poker Run that happened last weekend.
"We had 90 to 100 riders show up, 125 hands, raised $2055," said Casey Ensz with Bretz Injury Law. "We were very, very happy with the turnout. We had to go get more food. That was the first time we've ever had to do that, a good problem to have."
Ensz said having the memorial as one of the stops on the run was a positive.
"They came out to that and they all saw what it was they were supporting," Ensz said. "I think that really drove it home, what this does for the community and what it does for the Veterans' Memorial. They got to see what they were helping out. They got to see all the flags. They got to see all the panels, all the engraving. It's a really cool place."
It's also important to note that the timing of the event is purposeful. It's always on the weekend closest to Sept. 11, to commemorate those who have sacrificed for America, both here and abroad.
"It's not only the Veterans that we're celebrating," Ensz said. "We're celebrating our first responders, as well. It's something that we need to remember around every Sept. 11."
Over 15,000 veterans names have been submitted for placement on the memorial thus far.
