Hutchinson man arrested for aggravated robbery

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — An 82-year-old Hutchinson woman made her way to a local business to call for help after someone had robbed her on May 23. 

Hutchinson Police Department (HPD) revealed on May 24, they arrested Preston L. Lewis, white male, 35, Hutchinson on multiple charges on Tuesday. 

At 10:35 a.m. on May 23, HPD officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of North Main Street in reference to an armed robbery. 

 The female victim reported hearing someone rattling the back door of her residence.  Moments later she walked out of her house and confronted an unknown white male suspect in her yard. 

According to HPD, the suspect displayed what she believed was a large knife, verbally threatened her, and demanded she give him money. 

The victim was able to make her way to a nearby business to contact HPD and seek shelter. 

The suspect briefly entered the business as well, where he caused a verbal disturbance with employees.

Officers were able to contact the suspect on scene. 

The suspect was uncooperative and battered one of the officers while being taken into custody. 

Preston L. Lewis was arrested for  Aggravated Robbery, Battery LEO, Aggravated Criminal Threat, Interference with Law Enforcement, two counts of Disorderly Conduct, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 

No injuries were reported by any of the victims.

Lewis is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
