
Darryl Dean Tackett, 85, died November 13, 2023, at Paramount Health and Rehab in Newton, Kansas.
He was born on May 5, 1938, in McCamey, Texas, the son of Elby and Alta (Hoover) Tackett.
On November 28, 1963, he was united in marriage to Jereline Summers in Elko, Nevada. She preceded him in death on October 26, 2021.
He was retired from Excel Industries in Hesston where he worked as a test associate.
He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and Darryl and Jereline were sealed in the Salt Lake City Utah Temple.
Darryl was a member of the Newton Lodge #142 AF&AM; He was also a member of the Shrine, Scottish Rite and Knights of St. Andrew.
Darryl and Jereline traveled most all the Western United States in their camper and especially enjoyed Yellowstone National Park and seeing the giant redwoods in California. The couple belonged to a camping club that regularly met at the Marion Reservoir. Family was important to Darryl, and he looked forward to spending time with his family.
Darryl is survived by his son Jeffrey Tackett; daughter Susan (Nick) Gehrer; granddaughter Mallory Gehrer and grandson Brody Gehrer. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Wallace Tackett and Sister LaWanda Tackett
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 17, 2023, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Newton Ward with Bishop Brian Kynaston presiding. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Mound Township Cemetery in Rural Moundridge, Kansas with Masonic services.
Memorials may be made to the New Hope Shelter and left in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
