
SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement used a drone to help make an arrest in deadly knife attack in Wichita.
Just after 8:30 p.m. Monday, police officers responded to a reported disturbance in the 400 Block of West Maple in Wichita, according to a media release. First responders located 28-year-old Jon Berkenmeier of Wichita, suffering from apparent stab wounds. Officers immediately initiated life-saving measures; however, Berkenmeier was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 25-year-old Wichita man identified in booking records as Joseph Allen Anderson was detained at the scene and later arrested on a requested charges of second-degree murder.
Police said Berkenmeier and Anderson knew each other but released no additional details about their relationship.
The Wichita Police Department’s Drone as First Responder (DFR) was the first unit to arrive on scene, providing real-time aerial video and critical situational information to officers while they were responding. This early intelligence significantly enhanced officer awareness and coordination during the initial moments of the response.
