
Mauri A. Zumalt, 31, of Nickerson, died July 21, 2023, at her home in Nickerson. She was born March 3, 1992, in Wichita, to Keith and Betty (Beeney) Zumalt.
Mauri graduated from Pleasantview Academy, Hutchinson, and Hutchinson Community College with an associates’ degree. She had a wide array of interests. She studied biochemical engineering at K-State University, and had a vast interest in science, where she received many awards.
Mauri loved Colorado and always had a dream to move there. She would spend her time painting landscapes, mountains and rivers. She spent every summer of her childhood and most of adulthood going to Colorado with her family and spend every day on the river and in the mountains.
She knew how to speak German and some French. Mauri had a talent for writing and enjoyed writing books and poetry. She could play guitar, piano, and the harmonica. Perhaps, one of Mauri’s favorite pastimes, was rescuing and taking care of her animals. She loved her rescue ferret, Gaby and her dog Autum.
Mauri is survived by: parents, Betty and Keith Zumalt, Nickerson; siblings, Megan, Quentin, and Mandy Zumalt, Nickerson; grandmother, Karen Zumalt; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and boyfriend, Joseph ‘Joe’ Tuszynski, Lyons.
She was preceded in death by: her maternal grandparents; grandfather, Kyle Zumalt; and aunt, Sally Bennett.
Cremation has taken place. The family will greet friends 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary. Friends may sign the book from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
