⚾ Monarchs drop second straight to Cannons

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Monarchs dropped it's second game in as many nights to the Kansas Cannons, falling 14-9 on Tuesday night at Hobart-Detter Field.

The Cannons erupted for 14 runs on 14 hits in the game, while also drawing 10 walks. 

Hutchinson trailed 12-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Monarchs plated six runs in the inning, but failed to get any closer after stranding the bases loaded. 

The Cannons responded with two more insurance runs in the top of the eighth to push it's lead back to five, 14-9. 

Erich Pouch earned the win on the mound for the Cannons, going 2.2 innings, while Max Buettenback was credited with the loss for the Monarchs.

Hutchinson stranded 13 runners on base, one less than the Cannons' 14. The Monarchs committed four errors defensively in the loss.

The same two teams go at it again tonight in Augusta with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. from Wheeler Stadium. The Cannons have already won the series, winning the first two games, and outscoring the Monarchs in doing so, 34-9.

Max Buettenback led the Monarchs offense by going 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI. Jarrett Flaggert went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

The Monarchs return to Hobart-Detter Field on Thursday to open a series against the Newton Sluggin' Rebels. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. and can be watched live on Hutch Post.
