
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Coach Tommy DeSalme has said it many times, "It's a Valentine's Day thing! I just care how this team is playing after Valentine's Day."
Hutchinson extended a KJCCC win streak by winning its fourth straight with an 80-60 win over Garden City Wednesday night at the Sports Arena.
Hutch is now 19-11 overall and 13-11 in league play and earned a home court game at 2 p.m. on Saturday versus Northwest Kansas Tech. Admission to that game will be free of charge to the public with the doors opening at 1 p.m. Fans can enter through the east or west entrance to the Sports Arena.
The Blue Dragons led at the half by 12, then pulled away in the second half to win by 20. Ra'Sean Frederick and Dadrevius Weathers led the way for Hutchinson with 17 points each. Aaron Franklin was the other Blue Dragon in double figures with 13.
Garden City was paced by Buru Naivalurua with 21 points.
The Broncbusters finished as the No. 5 seed and will host Independence on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The semi-finals and finals will be played at the Garvey Gymnasium on the Friends University campus Friday, March 10, and Saturday, March 11. The winner will get an automatic invitation to the NJCAA D1 Men's Basketball Tournament, which will begin at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson on March 20.
