John Warren Dilley, 83, of McPherson, KS, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Cedars House.
John was born in Duluth, Minnesota, on December 12, 1939, son of the Chancellor Oliver and Ruby Esther (Weimer) Dilley.
John attended Monitor Country School, rural McPherson, a grade school
in Iowa and Rollins Grade School, Kansas City, Missouri, and graduated
from Westport High School, Westport, Missouri, in 1958. He then attended
Kansas City Missouri Junior College and graduated from McPherson
College, McPherson, Kansas, in 1963 with his Bachelor’s Degree in
History.
John was united in marriage to Karen Lee Zaun on
April 14, 1967, at the Messiah Church of the Brethren, in Kansas City,
Missouri.
He was a member of Church of the Brethren in
McPherson. In previous years John was a member of the Unity Church in
Minnesota, Heartland Spiritual Alliance, Olathe Church of the Brethren
and was baptized at the Messiah Church of the Brethren, Kansas City,
Missouri.
John worked for the Minnesota Highway Department for
a short time before becoming a Carrier for the Post Office in
Minnesota. He later was transferred to the Kansas City Area where he was
a Carrier and later a custodian for the Monticello Branch, working for
the postal service for 41 years.
He is survived by his
children, Wendi Cloud (Jake), of Middleburg, Florida, Becki Bowman (JD)
of McPherson, Kansas and Jon Dilley of Lincoln, Nebraska; seven
grandchildren and a great granddaughter;
sister, Barbara Gauldin,
of Blue Springs, Missouri and brothers, David Dilley (Nancy) of Olathe,
Kansas and Gary Dilley of Olathe, Kansas.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Prudy Keeling; his wife, Karen Dilley; and brother, Donald Dilley.
A private family service will take place at a later date.
