HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Harvest is off to a fast start in the area, although the rain slowed things down a bit on Monday. The crop is still looking good. According to the Kansas Ag Statistics Service, only 12% of the wheat is in poor to very poor shape and 63% is in good to excellent condition.
While things got off to a fast start here in the county, the harvest overall is running a little behind at just 13%. That’s well behind both the 23% last year and the five-year average of 25% harvested by this time.
With more hot weather in the forecast for later in the week, the harvest could be done in the area within the next 10-14 days.
