Sheriff: Kan. felon ran from traffic stop, jumped in river

FRANKLIN COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new allegations after a 

Just before 5:30p.m. March 28, a sheriff's deputy conducted a traffic stop involving 34-year-old Joshua Franks. He has a history of crime with previous convictions for robbery, interference with law enforcement, flee or attempt to elude and drugs, according tot he Kansas Department of Corrections.

After a brief conversation, Franks ran from the deputy and jumped into the  Marais des Cygnes River, according to a media release from the Franklin County Sheriff.

Although the river is shallow, the Franklin County EMS and Ottawa Fire Department were contacted in case a water rescue was necessary.

Deputies and police spoke with Franks for an extended period of time. He eventually came out of the water and was arrested on requested charges of driving with a suspended license; having no proof of insurance; and interference with a law enforcement officer.
