⚽️ Tibbs named men's soccer coach at Barclay

HAVILAND, Kan. — Joseph Tibbs has been appointed the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Barclay College. He brings impressive coaching experience from the elite club, collegiate levels, Olympic Development Program (ODP), and high school levels.

Scott Post, Director of Athletics for Barclay College, said, “Joseph has a very deep and successful record of coaching soccer. I believe he will become an important leader on campus.”

Coach Tibbs says, "Coaching is a ministry for me; I love creating a Christ-centered environment that honors Him. I believe it is important to lead with love, compassion, and integrity. My teaching philosophy is focused on developing young men of great character."

He adds, "We will strive to build a championship-caliber program that honors God in all that we do. We will be active in the community, excel in the classroom, and build a roster of highly talented student-athletes."

Prior to Barclay College, Tibbs served as Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Clarks Summit University in Northeast Pennsylvania. Under his watch, he led the Defenders to the most successful season in the program’s NCAA era. The Defenders qualified for the Colonial States

Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament after nearly a decade hiatus. In addition, ten student-athletes earned CSAC post-season honors in 2022.

From 2019-2022, he served as the Director of Soccer and Head Coach of both the men's and women's programs at Talladega College. In addition to the launch of their Graduate and Student Assistant positions, he hired their first Goalkeeping Coach and Director of Soccer Operations to aid the program's success. Throughout his stint at Talladega College, a collection of 40+ awards and honors have been presented to his student-athletes including All-Academic Team selections, GCAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, All-Conference recognition, and more.

Tibbs has also served as the Head Coach at the University of Maine-Machias and Fisher College after a decade of various other coaching roles. Throughout his leadership, well over fifty athletes received All-Conference recognition, Player of the Year awards, All-Academic Team honors, and a handful of USCAA All-American team mentions. In addition to individual awards, he has earned a collection of team recognition including making program history at Fisher College as Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NIAC) Champions in 2018.

Coach Tibbs gained invaluable coaching experience at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels. Tibbs has held assistant coaching stints at Cal State East Bay, Southern Virginia, St. Bonaventure, Southern Connecticut State, and Central Connecticut State Universities. In addition, Tibbs has served as head coach or staff member of ODP teams in Alaska, Connecticut, Eastern New York, New Hampshire, South Dakota, and Virginia.

From 2008-2011, he worked as a professional staff coach with South Central Premier Soccer Club in Connecticut. Tibbs has coached several players that participated in the USSDA program now MLS NEXT, and many of his players have continued their careers at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels.
