
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The annual Sand Plum Bicycle Classic bicycle ride is quickly approaching. This year's event is set for Sunday, May 1, starting at 8 a.m. at the Kansas State Fairgrounds.
As before, there will be a 13-, 26- and 50-mile route available for all levels of riders. The 13-mile route will run from the fairgrounds to Monroe, then north to 43rd and east to Old K-61 Highway, where it will turn back at 56th and head back to the fairgrounds along the same route.
The 26-mile route will be the same except it will extend to Buhler and then back, and the 50-mile route will run to Buhler, then east to Burmac Road, north to Cherokee Road and then east to Inman before going south to Buhler and then back onto the original course.
There will also be a family fun ride Saturday, April 30, at 5:30 p.m. at Carey Park, which will be followed by an ice cream social. The route is one lap around the park starting and ending at the zoo.
The cost to ride in the Sand Plum Classic is $25, which includes sag stops, lunch and a Saturday night social. The cost of the family ride is $15 per family.
