Mary Mae Schmidt, 87, of Buhler, Kansas passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at the Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was born October 28, 1934, to Issac A. and Katherine (Flaming) Fast in Carson Township of Cottonwood County, Minnesota.

She received her education in a Country School and Mountain Lake High School, graduating in 1952. She took an Accounting Course at Mankato Business School in Mankato, MN.

Mary Mae was baptized upon her confession of faith in 1950 and became a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church, Mountain Lake, MN. After her marriage, she transferred her membership to Buhler Mennonite Church, Buhler, KS.

On October 15, 1955, Mary was united in marriage to Alfred Schmidt at the Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake, MN. After their marriage, they established their home in Buhler. To this union, one son, Kenneth Duane, was born on October 25, 1956.

Mary worked in banking for 34 years in Minnesota, Hutchinson and Buhler, retiring in 2003.

She is survived by her two granddaughters, Jessica Vaile and Misty (Leo) Xicum Ku; daughter-in-law, Cindy; step grandson, Ryan (Chelsea) Penner; five great-grandchildren, Christian and Connor Vaile, and Kai, Hazel and Koa Xicum; two step great-grandchildren; brother, Marlyn (Amanda) Fast; sisters-in-law, Marilyn and Janice; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; son, Kenneth; parents; sisters, Ardella, Rosella, & Luella; and brothers, Peter (Esther), Irvin, and Albert.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 28, 2022 at Buhler Mennonite Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Services will be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/c/BuhlerMennoniteChurch. Burial will follow at Hebron Cemetery, rural Buhler.
