
Robert H. "Bob" Kurfiss passed away at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, Kansas, on Thursday, December 19th, 2024, at the age of 94. Bob was born on November 12th, 1930, in Salina, Kansas to Herman and Mabel (Waddle) Kurfiss. He attended school in Kipp, Kansas, graduating in 1948. He married Marcia Meek in 1950, and together they had three daughters, Debbie, Brenda, and Denise. They divorced in 1972. Bob served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1951-1953. After returning from the military, he worked as a draft teller at 1st National Bank in Salina, Kansas, and was promoted to loan officer and then Vice President. He later worked as President of the Farmers State Bank of Yoder, where he thrived in the Yoder community and truly cared for his customers. Bob also worked in Coffeyville and Independence, Kansas as an investment broker, before retiring at age 80.
Bob married his wife Marilyn in 1972 in Hutchinson, Kansas. Throughout their marriage, they enjoyed golfing, especially at Prairie Dunes in Hutchinson, doing DIY home improvement projects, and designing model train displays. They also loved spending time with friends and family and caring for their dogs. Bob and Marilyn retired to Holiday Island, Arkansas, where they lived and loved living until Marilyn's death in 2023, culminating 51 years of marriage.Bob was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Mabel, wife Marilyn, daughter Brenda Kurfiss McCurdy, sister LaVonne Broce Sampson, nephew Kelly Broce, and in-laws Carl and Garnet Fields.
Bob is survived by daughters Debbie (Roy) Gerard, Hutchinson, KS; Denise (Mark) Cessna, Hutchinson, KS; stepdaughter Deni (Randal) Richards, Ardmore, OK; stepson Todd (Julie) Bickel, Overland Park, KS. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Seth Gerard, Caleb (Katarra) Gerard, Matt (Kelly) McCurdy, Ryan (Hannah) McCurdy, Tyler Osteen, Katie (Casey) Morgan, Taylor Bickel, his eight great-grandchildren, niece Lori Broce Upchurch, and brother-in-law Phil (Gale) Fields.
A memorial service for Bob and Marilyn will be held on Friday, January 24th @11:30 am at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery pavilion. (Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield, KS). Cremation services were provided by Wulf-Ast Mortuary in Garden Plain, KS. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Kansas Veterans Home and Country Care Hospice for their devoted care and friendship with Dad.
