MCPHERSON, Kan. — Dave Bohnenblust has filed and is running for McPherson County’s District 2 Commissioner position.  District 2 encompasses the townships of McPherson, Canton, Spring Valley, Meridian, and Ward 1 of McPherson.   Bohnenblust is running unopposed for the position.

Current Commissioner, Tom Kueser is not seeking reelection which left the seat open this election cycle.  Kueser, President of the State Bank of Canton, has served as County Commissioner for District 2 since 2019.  He was appointed by the Republican Precinct Committee in April of 2019 and was Elected to serve in this role in 2020.

Kueser stated that he never thought of himself as an elected official, but as Public Servant.  “I will truly miss the connection that I have formed with the community during my time of service.  I want to thank each of you for your input and for your ability to make McPherson County a Beacon for all others to look towards.  I also want to thank you for the trust that you put into me during this journey.  God continues to bless my family and McPherson County in so many ways.  The best part of the job was being able to make a difference when asked or when I saw the need.  It was always my intent to keep government small, but very effective and efficient.  I sincerely thank you all for the support and prayers over the years.  This ride we have shared together is something I will always cherish and never forget.  Thank you and God Bless you all.”

Bohnenblust was born and raised in McPherson and has lived here for 50 of his 65 years.   He graduated from McPherson High School, Kansas State University (Civil Engineering and Business Management) and UT (MBA).  Dave is married to his high school sweetheart, Mary (Stucky).  They have 5 grown children and six grandchildren.  “McPherson County has been good to me and my family," Bohnenblust said.  "It’s been a great place to raise my family and it’s time for me give back and serve the people of McPherson County."

He is currently employed by KDOT as a district maintenance engineer overseeing transportation infrastructure and building maintenance issues in 22 counties.   He served as McPherson County’s public works director for 3 years.   “My work experience gives me the knowledge to make sure McPherson County has the infrastructure, equipment, staffing, roads and bridges that the public expects.  My life experiences will make me be a good listener to hear the needs and concerns of the people.”

Bohnenblust also worked in engineering and management for NCRA (now CHS) and Williams Energy.  “I have worked for several of the larger energy companies in the county.  This helps me know what the McPherson county industries need from the county,” He commented.  “My master’s in business and business background will help me evaluate the counties financial and budgetary issues.  As Commissioner Kueser stated, I will strive to keep government small but effective and efficient.”  He is a licensed professional engineer in 3 states (Kansas, Colorado, and Texas).

He has been endorsed by KFL PAC.

John Holthus is serving as his treasurer.
