HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Aah'lice Jackson of Hutchinson is the newest Miss Kansas Pre-Teen winner in the National American Miss competition that was held in Omaha earlier this summer. Jackson, 13, has been doing pageants for a long time.
"When I was younger, I got invited by the National American Miss pageant," Jackson said. "Ever since I was five, I've been competing."
She enjoys the people that she meets while doing pageants.
"I've met so many good friends along the way," Jackson said. "Just the fun it brings, with all the directors and the national queens who help us out during the pageant. I think it's really fun and a good, lifelong experience."
The structure of the National American Miss pageant is a little bit different.
"Our three main events are formal wear, an introduction and interviews," Jackson said.
Jackson sees pageants as a good confidence builder and that it gives life skills that are important, including having poise in front of people you don't know.
She and her family are raising money to get her to the national pageant in Orlando the week of Thanksgiving.
