HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Every year, the Hutchinson Public Library hosts a Creativity Contest for youth in 6-12th grade in the categories of art, photography, poetry, and short stories.
Winners will receive gift prizes in Hutch Bucks for $10-$30.
Additionally, in January the library hosts a “coffeehouse” for the participants to attend with friends and family. It’s a great way to highlight creative youth in the community.
Instructions:
● ART can be any medium, must be at least 5”x7”, and no larger than 11”x17” and unframed (mats and mounts are allowed but not required).
● PHOTOGRAPHY must be at least 5”x7” and no larger than 8”x10” and unframed (mats and mounts are allowed but not required).
● POETRY may be written out legibly in ink or typed out.
● SHORT STORIES must be no longer than 8 pages, typed and double spaced.
● DO NOT PUT YOUR NAME ON YOUR ENTRY. Your name should appear only on the cover sheet. Entries should be turned in - with a cover sheet - to the Hutchinson Public Library’s Youth Services circulation desk.
● Separate cover sheets are needed for each entry. While you may enter more than one category and more than one piece in the same category, you can only win one prize overall.
● Prizes (in Hutch Bucks) of $30 for first place, $20 for second place, and $10 for third place will be awarded in each format and each age group.
● DEADLINE for entry is Nov. 30. Winners will be announced mid-December.
