SEDGWICK COUNTY—A man accused in a deadly knife attack made his first court appearance Wednesday.
Todd Angevine, 35, Wichita, is charged with 2nd degree murder, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
Just after 12:30a.m. Sunday, the Wichita Police Department responded to a report of a knife incident near the Arkansas River, north of the Lincoln Street Bridge, according to Officer Kris Gupilan.
First responders at the scene along the walking path, discovered 43-year-old Lonnie Hunter who had died from multiple stab wounds.
Investigators from the Wichita Police Homicide Unit took over the investigation. After speaking with witnesses, they quickly learned that Lonnie Hunter was walking with a group of individuals when a confrontation ensued with a suspect described as a homeless man. The altercation led to Lonnie Hunter being stabbed multiple times, causing his tragic death. The suspect fled the area before the arrival of law enforcement.
Through diligent pursuit of leads, the Wichita Police tracked down and apprehended Angevine.
He is being held on a bond of a half-million dollars, according to the district attorney's office. He is due back in court April 26.
