
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Police Department swore in two new members to the department. Officer Mason Cooper and Lucas Dunbar joined the force in a recent ceremony.
Officer Cooper was born in Emporia, Kansas and moved to Hutchinson in grade school as both of his parents were born and raised in Hutchinson. He recently worked for his father at Cooper Tire as well as being a Police Service Aide for the past 2 1/2 years. He attended Buhler High School and graduated HCC with an Associates in Criminal Justice. He participated in High School Golf, and 4-H shooting sports. He always wanted to be a Police Officer to make a good lasting impact on the community. Officer Cooper's future Goals as a Police Officer are to be a K9 Handler and be a member of the Emergency Response Team.
Officer Dunbar was born and raised here in Hutchinson, Kansas but he is currently living in Sterling, Kansas. He recently graduated from Sterling College in May of 2021 with a degree in History and Government. Upon graduation, he became a first generation college graduate and now a first generation law enforcement officer. While at Sterling College, he played football, and had the opportunity to coach there as well. In his free time, he enjoys lifting weights and competing in strongman / powerlifting competitions throughout the year. He also enjoys spending time with his family. Officer Dunbar is looking forward to helping others, and is excited to give back to a community that has given so much to him.
